When love is in the air, every store displays its handpicked collection of red dresses, the prices of flowers and teddy bears go up, online gifting portals use discounts and offers as their ultimate marketing strategy, the same chocolates are available in four different customised packaging, and every other object around you is heart shaped – you know Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! Whether you are a I-think-Valentine’s day- is-overrated kind of a person or this-is-the-day-I-waited-for-all-year-long kind of a die-hard romantic, you sure cannot miss the fanfare that encompasses this occasion.
I have never been the ‘yearning for flowers and diamonds’ kind of a woman and soft toys are the worst gift you can ever give me as a grown up, but I still think Valentine’s Day is special.
I have heard a lot of opinions like – each day is a day of love, Valentine’s Day is evil for single souls, Valentine’s Day only leads to a hole in the pocket for an evening of disappointment, it’s expensive and over rated. Well! I am going to try to make an argument on why you should get into the spirit too!
Reason 1 – Expressing love is awesome!
For the ones who say they don’t need a specifically allotted day to express love, I’d say this: when was the last time you took a holiday from work to spend a day with your loved one, or bought a little something without an occasion, or scribbled ‘I love you’ on coloured paper?
