Keeping a toddler engaged and entertained can be quiet a thought-provoking task. I constantly find myself brainstorming for ideas to indulge in fun play activities with my son.
While we enjoy play time together on weekdays at home and the park, weekends are reserved for family time with dad. Unfortunately, we spend most of our weekends in the malls or restaurants, where there is very little room for my little one to engage in fun activities and play.
When I heard of an indoor play area for kids, The Riot Room, from a friend, I was intrigued and excited to pay a visit.
On a Sunday, our army of three geared up and headed to have some fun.
The Riot Room is located in Thane a 50 minutes drive from my house. But, the distance did not hold me back from visiting the place. The long drive with my husband came in complimentary;)
We entered the place at 6:00 pm, filled in a quick form pulled up our socks and entered the play premises. The three of us spent an hour there together and left happy, content and tired.
The Riot Room allowed us to spend uninterrupted quality time playing together. We laughed, jumped, hoped, smiled and climbed there together. My husband chose to join us in the play area instead of sitting at the cafe, because our son’s face was lit up like a bulb.
The building block, soft rides, slides, ball pool and handy games in the toddler section managed to spark curiosity and novelty in my son. And we as parents smiled delightfully, as we saw him derive immense pleasure doing mundane things.
We took him into the play area for older kids too. I climbed places with him, he ran from a corner to the other. For once, my son did not want me, he chose what he wanted to do and guided me there.
My son enjoyed the maze, trampoline, the ball shower, gun shooting, rock climbing, slides and the zig zag routes. This place managed to bring out the child in me as I played along with my son.
At the end of an hour, my son was so exhausted, that he simply wanted to be put to sleep. This is the kind of exertion I desire for my toddler. I watched him run, jump, play, exert and finally desire some restful slumber. As a mom, I am motivated to replicate this kind of excitement and physical activity at home.
Why I love The Riot Room?
The Riot Room is conceived by Hardika Lakhani, a mother herself who comprehends a mother’s needs and caters to them too.
The Riot Room provides an opportunity to children to play freely. As a teacher and a parent now, I highly advocate ‘Free play’ amongst children. It allows the child to explore, experiment, execute and learn by themselves. A free play of this sort aids social, physical and mental development of the child.
The Riot Room is an indoor soft structured play area, designed in a thoughtful manner keeping in mind the safety of children. Parents with older kids can sit back, sip coffee, grab a bite, relish some me/we time without having to worry about their child getting hurt.
For parents with toddlers, like me, can plunge in and have some fun too.
