I recently learnt about an initiative by Vicco Turmeric Ayurvedic Cream that encourages women to post pictures on social media without filters.
This one honestly got me thinking. We smoothen our skin, we use different filters, editing apps to achieve a picture with flawless skin. But have you ever wondered why do we do it? Why do we as women feel the constant need to blur out our skin, hide our imperfections, camouflage those marks, WHY?
We have been conditioned for a donkey’s age that women are suppose to look a certain way. We have been made to believe that freckles, wrinkles, spots, blemishes are not what you’d see on a “beautiful” woman’s face.
Have we blurred the fine line between self care and self doubt? Taking care of our skin and body because we love it helps build a beautiful relationship with ourselves. On the other hand constantly slathering products in disgust or because we desperate what to correct a flaw, ruins a woman’s relationship with herself.
My Story:
An undue pressure of looking a certain way was pressed into my psyche. As a teen, I had a highly volatile and excessively critical relationship with myself. As I grew older, I was able to gather my thoughts and understand that my family’s behaviour was a product of oppression they have built within themselves.
With a shift in my thought process, with the right kind of people walking in to my life, with support from my sibling and with oodles of focus I was able to leave my baffled and vexed self behind.
But the truth of the matter is, a lot of us are unhappy about how we look and where these thoughts stem from is secondary. According to a survey I recently read, approximately 91% of women are unhappy with the way they look, and 40 % of them would consider going under the knife in the future.
The need of the hour is to unlearn the idea that there exists a certain skin type that is perfect and worthy of praise. Instead all kinds and shapes and textures of skin are equally beautiful.
Vicco Turmeric
Like I said earlier self care is an essential part of self love. And one way I take care of myself and my skin is by using natural creams and products. VICCO has been a constant in my Skincare routine since my early teens. Infact using raw and wild turmeric on my skin has always been my favourite thing to do. It’s what my grandmother used, mother did and so I love it.
