Diwali is around the corner and one cannot miss the glee and sparkle in the air during this festival. Diwali is all about fun, crackers, family, and FOOD!!
Diwali is a festival which goes on for a couple of days and the preparations begin well in advance. With a variety of sweet available in the market nothing still beats the mouth-watering sweets made at home.
My favourite bit about Diwali is undoubtedly lip-smacking, delicious food Sweets, muruku, kanji wada and other yummilious food that tastes doubly delicious on Diwali!
Another integral part of Diwali is meeting friends and family and having a lot of parties. During this season it becomes almost impossible to control your sweet intake or to stick to a diet. Afraid to offend the hosts, most people end up over-eating during Diwali.
Too much of sweets, fried foods can cause indigestion. Instead of using store-bought medicines to reduce indigestion, you can try out natural and effective home remedies.
The best part about these remedies is that they do not have any side effects. These natural remedies are helpful in neutralizing the acid balance in the tummy.
1. Garlic Syrup
Garlic and salt water is very helpful in the soothing the stomach and can help secrete healthy digestive enzymes that aid better digestion.
Try this: Take two glasses of water in a pan and bring it to boil, add a pinch of salt and a few garlic cloves to the boiling water and allow it to boil further for 5-7 minutes. Allow it cool and consume it. You can consume this mixture once in a day, preferably after a meal.
2. Lime Juice
Lemon juice and baking soda solution is helpful in neutralizing the stomach acids and are help in relieving painful gas.
Try this: Squeeze the juice of half a lemon in 1 cup of water. Before drinking the juice add 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda. Drink the solution slowly. It can be consumed once a day, after a meal.
3. Ajwain Water
Ajwain seeds contain biochemical components like pinene, terpinene and thymol – all which contribute to curing digestive issues. Ajwain works as an anti-acid agent and neutralize the acid effect in the stomach. Asafoetida (hing) helps to get rid of excess gas accumulation in the stomach. My mother in law insisted on me drinking this solution for a long period of time after I delivered my baby to avoid gas troubles.
Try this: Mix both Ajwain powder and asafoetida together. Consume the mixture and drink 1 cup of warm water. This remedy can cure indigestion after a heavy meal.
4. Ginger and Fennel Seeds Drink
Ginger is good for the stomach because it is loaded with antioxidants that relieve indigestion and nausea. Fennel seeds help in removing gas from the digestive tract. Additionally, it also boosts the secretion of gastric juices and helps better digestion.
Try this: Take a pan boil 1 cup of water with chopped ginger and fennel seeds.
Allow it to boil for 10 minutes. Strain the water in a cup. Now, add 1 teaspoon of lemon juice and 1 teaspoon honey to this water. Drink the water twice a day.
So this Diwali, try moderation when that tempting tray of ladoos is placed in front you! If you think you won’t be able to then be sure to bookmark and keep these home remedies handy!
