The fall and the winters could officially be declared as the months of Weddings. Call it whining, but we moms are pressed for time and being able to visit the salon for prolonged sessions and/or spending long hours decking up is a luxury we can seldom afford. So with the wedding season upon us, here are some beauty hacks that are going to make sure you look gorgeous as ever without spending a fortune or your precision hours.
#1 Get an instant glow
Winters mean a combination of dry and flaky skin. Definitely not a perfect canvas to get the make up on point. Exfoliation is a must! But instead of using a usual scrub, take a generous amount of your favourite moisture or baby cream in a container and add a tea spoon of salt/sugar. Gently massage your face and neck scrubbing off the dead skin and hydrating it at the same time. Don’t forget to rub an ice cube on your face to restore the pores to normal.
#2 Get smooth lips
I had been too lazy to use a lip balm through the winters. Lipstick on dry and chapped lips is a total put off. Thanks to my mother in law who suggested a quick fix to smoothen my lips within minutes. Grate a small piece of beet root and squeeze the juice out, add a tea spoon of coconut oil to the juice and mix well. Apply this liquid on your lips and massage for a little while (you could apply it on your face too) leave it on for 5 minutes and wash off. You have to try this one to see the magic happen
#3 Brighten those sleep deprived eyes
Have spent the night tossing and turning and don’t want to let it show? I use this trick as a quick fix to depuff tired eyes. Seep two tea bags in a hot cup of water for about 5 minutes. Place the tea bags in the freezer to cool down for 20 minutes. Squeeze out the excess water and place the tea bags on your eyes for 15 to 20 minutes. This helps shrink the blood vessels around the eyes reducing puffiness and dark circles.
#4 Style your hair closest to natural
First of all you need to answer the big question – up or down? Would you want to roll up your hair or let them loose. If you choose an updo, make sure you secure your bun well with pins and hair spray. Apply hairspray on to your pins for them to stay in place. If you decide to leave your hair loose, options like soft waves or blow dry would be easier to achieve and manage compared to excessive styling.
#5 Go bold but not excessively
Bold eyes or bright lips instantly glam up the look. Make sure you accentuate one feature and go easy on the other. Bold eyes with nude lips or the other way round is a perfect way to look ultra glamorous without going overboard.
#6 Borrow your baby’s powder
Don’t have the time to shampoo and condition your hair, use a dry shampoo, don’t have that too? Use your baby’s powder. Apply Baby powder into your hair and brush through to get rid of the sticky and oily hair look. Want your eyelashes to look long and voluminous, apply baby powder before mascaras and notice the difference for yourself
#7 Drink plenty of water
When you are well hydrated, it’s just shows on your skin. Keep a bottle of water handy and keep sipping water at regular intervals. To remind myself to drink water (yes, I need to be reminded) I keep four bottles with myself and aim at finishing one each between 9 am to 12 noon, 12 noon to 3 pm, 3 pm to 6 pm and from 6 pm to 9 pm. Find a way that suits you best. I know this isn’t a quick fix, but it’s a good idea to just drink up.
#8 Make that lipstick last forever
It can be irritating to visit the restroom over and over to reapply your lipstick. But at the same time you need to ensure you look good as you meet your family and friends at the wedding functions that last all day. The trick is to make your lipstick last longer. The obvious way out is to invest in brands that manufacture long lasting lip products. And the other way to ensure that your lipstick lasts longer is – to hold a tissue paper on to your lips after you have applied the lipstick and dab translucent powder on it.
#9 Pop those eyes up
If you really haven’t had the time to try hack #3 make up can still help you look less like a zombie. Applying Kajal only on the lower rim does not make the eyes look bigger, apply Kajal on the inner rim of your upper eyelid too. And sway that magic wand called mascara onto your lashes to notice the difference.
#10 Simply wear a bright smile
It’s okay to not be dressed to the T sometimes. We are moms and we have our every day stories. It’s okay to let our hair loose. But the one thing we never miss out on is that bright and happy smile:)
